I live in the part of the country that was hit with major storms this past weekend. I realized that no matter how safe you think you are or that "it can never happen to you" attitude you have, you will be proven wrong.

The one thing that I thought I would never have to worry about where I currently live happened to me this past Saturday morning. I woke up before sunrise to find there was nearly two feet of water in my house. My daughter was screaming and my son was crying and I was pissed as hell! Cause I thought someone had let the toilet over flow, or the tub, sink, something but never once did I think I was in the middle of a flood.

In a matter of ten minutes from waking up, I was scrambling to get my kids out the door, in the jeep, and head for higher ground. I was lucky that the jeep started and was able to get me out of the area even with the headlights under water.

It took me several more minutes to believe this was actually happening.

Well, there were many terrible loses that night, and over the next few days, with the tornadoes, flooding, rock slides, and everything to many people close to my home and neighborhood.

I never bought flood insurance because I told myself I didn't need it. I didn't live near a river, creek, lake or on a flood plain. My house was elevated and there had never been high water in my area for as long as anyone could remember. Well, shit happens and I was wrong. I lost damn near everything in the house, all the furniture, floors, tv's, one computer, (I saved this one!), and many items that can never be replaced (old family photo albums, personal affects of my mother who passed away 3 years ago).

I do consider myself lucky that I did make it out alive with my children and my dog. I still have the house, even though it smells like ass now, and I won't be able to live in it anytime in the near future, but it just goes to show, no matter how old you are, how safe you think you are, or just the fact that it has never happened before, just let my unfortunate lesson teach you as well, that the universe will prove you wrong.

Keep everyone that was effected by any recent event that has bestowed misfortune to them in your thoughts.

I will be posting some pictures I was able to take of the flooding and aftermath as soon as I am able. I was lucky to be able to find a way to get online this time to post this. It will a little bit before I can update any of my threads or whatever I was updating, but be assured I will be back and with a vengeance!
