I actually LOVE Kimbo, but then again, my frat brothers and I had many a good night watching Kimbo knockouts on YouTube. He's the bouncer for the company that does Milf Hunter Porn, which I think is hilarious, although I'm guessing he's put some of that behind him because he's gone pretty straight edge to start training with Bas Rutten.

A lot of fight fans don't like Kimbo, but I think it's a lot like watching Mike Tyson towards the end of his career in that you're pretty sure someone is going to get a fist to go through their face. All the way through. I'm a fan, I think he'll have trouble if he fights a strong wrestler or a Jitz guy who can actually take him down, but that's still to be seen. Until then, I say keep throwing him a bunch of mid-card level fighters and watch him mow through them with guys just trying to avoid that massive right hand.

Fight fans are open to him, he wouldn't be the first stand up guy to do well. I think he needs to have a fight go to the ground and win and that will shut people up. He can knock people the fuck out no matter what anyone says.

I think some fans might be open to him (Hell, I'm open to Brock Lesnar too) I just think there are a lot of guys who want to hate on the guy because he comes from Street Fighting and that's what a lot of UFC/MMA fans, as well as promoters, are trying to get the sport away. It was the early UFC that McCain tried to get banned/outlawed, you know? So to see a street fighter come up, it's hard for some people. Now with that said, training with Bas Rutten and probably, in turn, some of the guys from Legends gym I'm sure he's taking his fighting serious and will eventually be able to be an all around fighter. Right now he's like a less polished Houston Alexander, but with ESPN coverage. There are going to be some uptight guys who are not going to come around to him even if he has a fight go to the ground and he wins. With that says, I'd be interested to see who would be able to actually take him down and risk catching a right hand on the shoot!

I totally agree. Let's be honest what promoters care about is filling seats and selling PPV's. He will do that at first. Bas is a badass and from watching Kimbo on ESPN he is taking training seriously. Dana is trying to make the sport seem civilized but when it comes down to it people want to see knockouts and we know he can do that.

I've been doing BJJ and Muay Thai boxing for about 4 months now and love it. It's a great way to get in shape. Any of you guys participate and to what level?

Leroy is our resident expert, but you'll need to call him Randall. Me? Just a fan but going to take some grappling classes once the torn ACL heals. I'd love to get rolling, if for nothing else, to have an even better idea of what's going on when I watch the fights.

yeah but the strikers who are succesfull in mma have elite levels of takedown defense. take a look at chuck liddell and mirko cro cop's fights(watch his pride fights not his ufc fights ) to see an impressive sprawl. those two guys are nearly impossible to get to the mat which is the reason they have been able to survive by primarily being strikers

as for kimbo he wont fight any real competition anytime soon. he is gary shaws meal ticket and he wont be matching him up with anyone with a real chance of beating him. case in point the james thompson fight. sure jt is the bigger and stronger of the two and has solid standup, but he literally has a glass jaw. i know that term gets thrown out a lot but his chin is very very weak. look for a kimbo ko in under 2 minutes.

just take a look at the number of posts that are brought up about kimbo in comparision to guys like fedor and josh barnett. talent alone doesnt sell tickets and kimbo is proof of that.

Kimbo is fighting for Elite XC owned by CBS. They have the promo tools to hype him. Right now he is a commidty in the fighting world. I go back and forth if he will truly be someone to watch, but with his internet following he will get eyeballs on the screen.

also i'm not sure how "hardcore" of fans there are here, but the japanese upstart organization dream just signed a deal with elitexc and plan on sharing fighters which means there will be some extremly exciting lw's about to be shown on network tv
