The logic behind it is pretty simple. They are actually still in freefall. What they are doing isn't flight. Sure, their special suits give them a bit more lift and control, but it's not even like a glider. Notice at the end they had to pop their shute. I think I read that they have to have at least 200 feet of altitude when they do that.

All that said, the skimming down the side of a mountain would be a rush.
