I hate the stupid TIP JAR... i seems that almost everyone has one.. pretty soon the girl at my office answering the phone is going to have one...

In general, I only tip "tip based" employees. My ex-girlfriend only made $2.10 +tips back in the late 90's. Not sure what the tip rate is now, but I know it's less than a third minimum wage.

Servers get %15 if they "do their job". %20 if they do a good job. A penny if they don't ask if I want a refill.

Pizza delivery: Depends on how far they drive, weather, attitude, correctness of order, etc. For us, our order is usually over $25 and a tip of $5 for a start.

I've rarely used a car wash, however, I always tipped after the job was done and usually %20 if it was a decent wash. Zero if it wasn't.

I don't tip coffee shop people. 1. I don't drink coffee. 2. They charge a crap load for their stuff. 3. That'd be like tipping at Micky-D's.

I don't tip Hotel cleaners as they get paid a salary better than minimum-wage.

The last staff position i had i told some co-workers that i was going to put a tip jar on my desk for the LuLz but i never did...

I will tip waiters/waitress maybe 2 or 3 bucks but i wont give them more than that.I shouldnt have to pay just because the owner is too cheap to give them a living wage

The car wash dude gets $3... is that too low? if he's waxing my car he gets $5-$6..
I never know what to tip those guys.

I do feel bad for the hotel maid... i leave her $3-5 for every day I stay

I used to deliver pizzas, $2 tip is fine, anything above that is great .. I would fucking hate when they gave you a dollar WTF and even worst when the total was $19.60 and they handed you a $20 and they tell you "keep the change" FUCK YOU.
And on top of that, they would ask for cheese and peppers and napkins and plates..

I would love to pay a living wage. Actually, you will get to pay the living wage. Meaning your $18 pizza just became $30. Bummer. But you showed "the man."

Having said that my servers make more than I do and work a fraction of the hours...

When i was a server at a high end steak house i had a regular that would come in at least once a month and asked for me every time. He tipped me $1000 no matter what his bill was. He was one of our most important guests. When he would call for his reservation, management would call me at home and tell me. That guest would be my only table for the night so i could focus all my attention on him...

Tipping out
I would tip out my sommelier $150 bcuz he helped sell more wines and helped with re-pours.

Then i tipped out the bartenders $20-30 (which NO other servers ever did) if the table had any cocktails.

I would then tip out my server assistants (backwaiters) $40 each (they were usually 17 y.o kids so that was a lot for them)

Whenever my regular came in i always spread the wealth. Also, it helped keep the hate at bay. People can be extremely jealous of your good fortune.
Even after tipping out the others, which wasn't even required, i always walked with mad cash...

The guy was the coolest millionaire i ever met. So down to earth and humble.
