Okay here's what I think (some of it at least) about this whole Ground Zero mosque deal.

1) I say let them build it and let them gather as many potential terrorists in it on the Sabbath or Sunday or Ramadan or whatever, and then we fly a cargo plane filled with pigs into it and send them all to hell with no 8yr old virgins.

2) Islam is a relatively young religion, and when Christianity was younger it was used to violent ends as well (Inquisition, subjugation of pagan cults, etc.) and there is a chance that Islam will calm as it matures as well.

3) Isn't there some way some crazy smart jewish lawyer can find a zoning law that would prevent this?

4) Muslims scare me, not because of the violence in some of their scriptures (because if you read the old testament, there's plenty of violence there) but their attitudes towards women and more particularly young girls. It is not okay to marry a girl in her sub-teens and then rub one off between her thighs until she's 9 when you finally violate her. That's fucked up.

So, the Muslim investors championing the construction of the new mosque near Ground Zero claim it's all about strengthening the relationship between the Muslim and non-Muslim world. As an American, I believe they have every right to build the mosque - after all, if they buy the land and they follow the law - who can stop them? Which is, why, in the spirit of outreach, I've decided to do the same thing.

I'm announcing tonight, that I am planning to build and open the first gay bar that caters not only to the west, but also Islamic gay men. To best express my sincere desire for dialogue, the bar will be situated next to the mosque Park51, in an available commercial space.

This is not a joke. I've already spoken to a number of investors, who have pledged their support in this bipartisan bid for understanding and tolerance. As you know, the Muslim faith doesn't look kindly upon homosexuality, which is why I'm building this bar. It is an effort to break down barriers and reduce deadly homophobia in the Islamic world.

The goal, however, is not simply to open a typical gay bar, but one friendly to men of Islamic faith. An entire floor, for example, will feature non-alcoholic drinks, since booze is forbidden by the faith. The bar will be open all day and night, to accommodate men who would rather keep their sexuality under wraps - but still want to dance.

Bottom line: I hope that the mosque owners will be as open to the bar, as I am to the new mosque. After all, the belief driving them to open up their center near Ground Zero, is no different than mine.

My place, however, will have better music.

I understand the fuss that it would be tastless to contrust a mosque on the site but

1. It's a community centre, basketball court and all, not a mosque

2. It's several blocks away from ground zero

3. There are strip clubs and muslim owned businesses in the same radius

yeah, and open a pork rendering plant right next door. At first I was like, this is America, you can't stop people from practicing their religion, but, keeping in mind, something like 80% of New Yorkers and something like 65% of the rest of the country do not want it there, why can't they put it somewhere else? Recently the builders blew off a meeting with the Governor to discuss an alternate location, they don't want to hear about it. So now I say fuck them.

BTW: It's 2 blocks from ground zero, not 12. It's not a cheap area, they can easily find a better place to put it. It may be a cultural center, but religious services are held there every day right now. It is not an attempt at solidarity. it's a slap in the face. They are laughing about how weak and stupid we are. Bottom line is NY'er do not want it there.
My daughter and my girlfriend both work a few blocks from there, and I live a few miles from there. You guys don't know what it is like to live in a war zone. Every time a plane flies over my head, I wonder if it's going down, and I start to think how I am going to get my daughter and gf out of the city if any shit goes down. I know it's not like living in Israel, but it's a real concern. Us New Yorkers are the ones who should make the decision whether we want the "cultural center" or not.

Their current cultural center is 12 blocks away. I agree, it is a local issue. If the broad majority of new yorkers are against it, then why did the local board vote in its favor?

Also, I didn't say it was an attempt of solidarity on their part. I said IF it gets built, its solidarity on America's part of religious tolerance- one of the founding missions of this country. Personally, I don't care if it gets built or not, it doesn't affect me one way or another. If they want to put up a zoning restriction banning all religious buildings in that area- fuck it! But if you ban just a certain religion from building, it won't hold up in court and what will be the point?

Money. I don't disagree with you. I personally do not want it there, but would have to support it, because it is like you said, it is one of the founding missions of this country. But when they refuse to even think about putting it somewhere else, then I think it sounds personal and a slap in the face to all New Yorkers. Fuckem.

Probably because the current political trend is, if a majority of people are against it then it must be good.

Just for further speculation. (and no I haven't read any of the fact check stuff yet. who needs fact when you have rumor?

)

Aren't they planning on naming the new cultural center "Cordoba House" and wasn't Cordoba Spain captured by a Muslim army in the 700's?
