Gently move the input piece back and forth to nudge it back into place? Or even gently apply pressure to push it back into the casing of the drive. It's likely something back there just got knocked around.
If any of those work by some luck of the 'verse, copy everything asap and ditch the drive. (least that's what I'd do, better to be safe than sorry) Sorry

I just got a second, but older computer from a friend. It has Windows ME on it. It's an eMachine, 600 MHz. I need to put XP on it but my serial number to the disc was lost with old computer. Is there a way I can get a new or generic serial number for the upgrade. I have no way of proving ownership of the XP, so I can't call MS for a new one. I do have an old serial number from a computer I bought years ago, but it turns out the company that sold me the computer was using a open license on too many machines and MS invalidated the SN so I can't get updates. Now I know I can d/l the SP1,2 and 3 to disc, but since the SN can't be authenticate the machine stopped updating. Is there a way around that issue?
I appreciate an help anyone can give me. Thanks in advance.

Well, HP, but you kinda just said fuck them, soo..
Acer makes good laptops but they apparently load a lot of bullshit on them that you'd have to go uninstall. I think it's Samsung makes some pretty decent ones, but their physical design isn't the best looking. And then there's Dell. Just shop around. Write down model numbers and then go look around on support forums and see what kind of problems people are having, but keep in mind most software issues are operator errors. If you're not sure of something, feel free to PM me or whatever.
