Remember when Lindsay Lohan was an actress? Yeah, those days are long gone. By the age of 17, the freckle-faced redhead had already starred in four major movies. Then came a platinum album, the mega-hit 'Mean Girls,' and numerous magazine covers. In fact, she was so 'hot' that Hollywood wanted to mold her into the next Julia Roberts, Entertainment Weekly reported at the time.

Then came the DUIs, three (unsuccessful) stints in rehab, a series of tumultuous personal relationships, an ongoing feud with her estranged father, Michael Lohan, and a few straight-to-DVD (or just TV) movies.

Needless to say, Lindsay's hard-partying and drama-filled life has taken a toll on her leading lady good looks. Check out the evolution of Lilo's face: From 'It Girl' to 'What Happened?!' ...

Lilo burst onto the scene in 1998 when she starred as identical twins in 'The Parent Trap' remake. With her bright red hair and adorable freckles, not to mention her impressive dual performance (for which she won a Young Artist Award), the bubbly 12-year-old quickly rose to child star status.

Lindsay, seen here in July 1998, followed up her 'Parent Trap' success by starring in two Disney TV movies, 'Life-Size' opposite Tyra banks in 2000, and 'Get a Clue' in 2002.

Wide-eyed and innocent, Lohan was poised to make her mark on Hollywood in 1999.

By 2002, the budding actress was blossoming into a young woman, albeit a scandal-prone one. She began dating popstar Aaron Carter, kickstarting a tabloid-fueled feud with fellow Disney tween Hilary Duff in the process.

By the summer of 2002, Lohan was clearly hitting the (spray tan) bottle. Pictured her at the premiere of 'Austin Powers in Goldmember,' Lindsay appeared to have taken the film's title a bit too literally ..

In 2003, the 17-year-old's career took off with the release of 'Freaky Friday,' co-starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Lindsay also lightened up her trademark red locks and started covering up her freckles with mounds of makeup.

As her career went into overdrive, so did Lindsay's Oompa Loompa-esque tan. In 2004, the actress starred in 'Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen' and 'Mean Girls,' the movie that made her a household name.

Sticking with her auburn locks for a bit, a round-faced Lindsay won a the MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Performance in June 2004 for her role in 'Freaky Friday.' Noticeably missing, however, were Lilo's abundant freckles.

The actress-turned-singer was on top of the world when her debut album, Speak, dropped in December 2004. But while shooting 'Herbie: Fully Loaded' that same year, there were warning signs of the starlet's future downward spiral.

The 18-year-old landed herself in the hospital in October with a kidney infection, believed to be brought on by her hard-partying lifestyle and tumultuous personal life. The tabloids pounced on the story and Lindsay soon became a paparazzi magnet.

By 2005, gone are the baby face, the red hair and the wide-eyed innocence ...

... and the new Lindsay emerges: Blonde, frighteningly skinny, and partying all over town with the likes of Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton.

Lohan later admitted to Vanity Fair that her weight had gotten out of control at that time. 'I knew I had a problem and I couldn't admit it,' the singer-actress told the mag in early 2006. 'My arms were disgusting. I had no arms.'

Lilo also said she was 'making myself sick' at the time - a claim she later said was 'misconstrued.'

2006 was another tough year for the hard-partying starlet. In July, she was hospitalized for 'heat exhaustion' while shooting the film, 'Georgia Rule.' But her boss - as well as the rest of the country - wasn't buying her excuse. In a letter addressed to Lohan, James G. Robinson, the head of the production company for 'Georgia Rule,' accused the actress of acting 'like a spoiled child.'

"We are well aware that your ongoing all-night heavy partying is the real reason for your so-called 'exhaustion,'" Robinson wrote in the letter published on thesmokinggun.com.

But 2007 proved to be much, much worse for Lohan ... and her face ...

After attending AA meetings in 2006, the actress checked into rehab in January 2007. However, it wasn't long before she was back on the club circuit. In fact, only a few months later, in May 2007, the actress, just 20-years-old at the time, was arrested in Santa Monica, Calif. on suspicion of driving under the influence and with a suspended license, as well as for felony cocaine possession.

Soon after, Lohan headed back for round two of rehab, following by a second arrest (and a car chase), and her third trip to rehab that August.

On Nov. 15, 2007. Lindsay checked into jail, spending a mere 84 minutes behind bars for her DUI and cocaine possession convictions.

On Dec. 30, 2007, Lohan was looking worse for the wear at the Capri Film Festival ...

Back to being a redhead, Lohan exemplified the danger of too much spray-tanning at the launch party of, what else, her new tanning mist, Sevin Nyne,' the formula for which she was later accused of stealing.

Whoa there! Lilo tried out piercing blue contacts at her birthday party on June 27, 2009.

During Paris Fashion Week, Lindsay got attention for both her widely-panned design efforts for Parisian label Emuel Ungaro, as well as her Donatella Versace-esque makeover.

The 23-year-old starlet walked the runway at the Ungaro show, debuting a new trout pout, washed-out platinum locks, as well as a very weathered face.

It seems years of tanning, smoking cigarettes and partying have taken their toll on the actress' naturally pale and sun-sensitive skin.

After being ordered to court on Oct. 16 because her mandatory 18-month alcohol education program reported her missing for more than 21 days, Lindsay showed up looking anything but fresh-faced. With a furrowed brow, messy hair, and blood-shot eyes with dark circles underneath, Lindsay looked every bit the Hollywood trainwreck she'd gained a reputation for being.

Just three days later, Lilo showed up at the Whitney Museum of Art Gala with a noticeably puffy face, eye lids that seemed to struggle to stay open, and lips that looked freshly plumped.

In Feb. 2010, Hollywood's wild child finally came clean, opening up to Britain's The Sun about her drug-filled past ? and pointing the finger at her father. The troubled starlet claimed her estranged dad, Michael, a former drug addict, first introduced her to cocaine.

'I was only aware of cocaine because of my dad,' Lohan said in the interview. 'I was terrified of it. But I tried it because I was stubborn, stupid, and wanted to see what it was like.'

Lohan, 23, says she hit 'rock bottom' in 2007, when Michael began talking negatively about her in the press.

'I abused substances too much and it wasn't the answer to my problems. People need to know that,' she admitted. 'I tried to mask my problems with alcohol, cocaine and mind-altering substances.'

On May 24, Judge Marsha Revel ordered a rough-looking Lilo to begin wearing a SCRAM alcohol monitoring device within 24 hours. She'll have to wear the device until her July 6 hearing on whether she violated terms of her probation. Lilo allegedly blew off alcohol-education classes and missed a mandatory court appearance, claiming she was trapped in Cannes, France, after her passport was stolen.
