In 1997, I stood behind Glenn Frey in line for Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. He wore a Lexus jacket and had a pretty blonde wife or girlfriend and a kid with him.

In 1980 Reba McEntire was the Grand Mistress of a parade in town. I stepped out into the street to take a picture of her for my sister, and she told me be careful or I would break the camera.

Terry Zwigoff, writer of Ghost World and director of Crumb, emailed me once looking for the cover image of a particular pulp detective magazine from the forties. I didn't have it.

I tried to buy a piece of art from J.O. Barr, creator of The Crow. He wouldn't sell it to me. I thought "Man, this dude seems like he's on heroin." Then another artist said "Jim, you seem hungover, man." He answered "No, man, you don't get hangovers on heroin."

In 1976, Burt Ward came to town to do a promotional appearance for a car lot. He spoke to my school at an assembly. Even then I knew the Batman series sucked.

Long before he did Spawn, Todd McFarlane signed a baseball for me and gave me his phone number, with the idea that he would come to town and appear at a comic show. Then he got famous and changed his number.

At a taping for an episode of Ink, a short-lived sitcom with Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, Ted Danson made eye contact with me or someone within three or four seats of me for over a second.

I used to sleep with a girl who shared an elevator with Richard Pryor once. I also slept with the sister of a girl who knew Laura Dern.
