HELP: Weird problem with my computer.

My power went out today and when it came back on, the light on my power supply was flashing and my PC would not turn on. I unplugged everything, took out the power supply, plugged it into the wall, and the light was solid like it's supposed to be. So I started plugging things in one by one, DVD ROM, DVD Burner, Hard drive, then Motherboard, when I plugged in the motherboard it wouldn't turn on anymore. So I left everything plugged in except the motherboard, plugged it in to the wall, the light came on, then plugged it in to the motherboard, and it started no problem. Anyone know what caused that? Do I need to get something fixed or is it alright?

BIOS power distribution error maybe?

I wouldn't worry about it, just monitor it for the next week or so for any unusual behavior. If something is acting funny, I'd start with swapping power supplies, and praying that fixes it.

You should get a battery backup. I recommend APC. I have this beast and nothing gets through it but pure power. Pretty much any APC product is great.

If nothing else works, try resetting your motherboard... If its a desktop, not a laptop.
If you still have your instructional booklet thingy for your motherboard or if you know what kind you have (look it up), it should tell you how to do it. Most motherboards have jumpers for resetting the BIOS. It is a three pin setup. You move it from the two it is on, to the only other possible combination of two and leave it there for 30 seconds or so, then put the jumper back (all done with the power cord unplugged of course).

If your motherboard doesn't have jumpers for this, then you need to take out the CMOS battery.

I took out the CMOS bat while working on it. It seems to be working fine now, I'll just never shut it off ever again.
