Default My computer problem

I've had this problem for a while and have just been dealing with it. I thought I'd ask you guys in the hope that there'll be a minimum of ridicule.

I've got a Dell desktop that's wired directly to my wireless router (router goes to a DSL modem). My internet access works fine and fast. The problem happens whenever I try to download large files. The download starts (I use Firefox) and goes for a while and then hangs. Pausing and restarting the D/L doesn't work. This happens on every file, unless it's really small, like a jpg. I've tried using a download manager (down-them-all in this case) and the same thing happens. I've had this problem for a long time, both with my old "G" router and the new "N" one. It did work right at one point long ago, but I don't know of anything that could have happened to kill it (I know, that's what they all say).

I've got two laptops ( 1 macbook, one Dell) and another desktop PC that all connect wirelessly. They have no problem connecting and/or downloading large files using Firefox. I primarily use my laptop, but occasionally I like to - ahem - review some of Fsmak's post on the widescreen.

Did you try a direct connect to the DSL modem to see if the problem is still there? Sounds like a firewall problem to me, though. Your PC download is dropping packets and timing out, I believe. I'm sure some of the geniuses around here would know better, though.

Check out your "event viewer" and see if you have anything in there that will tell you the problem.

If you see : Event Source: ASP.NET 1.1.4322.573
That means the downloads are using to much memory and reseting at about 400mg or so. Microsoft has a hot fix for this problem. Let me know if you need the link. It could be harmful to install the hotfix if you do not see the above mentioned event.

There are other thing to check so let me know if this helps.

Sounds like the firmware in your router may think the connection is idle or bottlenecked and dumps the remaining packets. You may look into updating the firmware, or set some type of refresher on a browser.

Good catch, hadn't heard of this one. Did you run into it?
