I am not a big tattoo guy but I was thinking about getting one with son's and wife's name.
I was thinking a tree with my wife's name in the roots and a my son's name in the leaves. I am super nervous about getting something permanently affixed to my body.
Will a tattoo artist draw it all out and let you see it before the put it on you?

Most definitely. If the people you go to won't, keep looking. Just give whoever does the work, the idea or find pics similar to what you want and they'll get it down for you.

I dig how they're metal coming in and bone going out.

I would suggest that you try your best to draw it out first to give them an idea. Even if you artwork is super-crappy (my first tattoo idea I carried around from 1995 until last year in MS Paint format). Also, have the tattooist draw it up for you first, if you don't like what they did ask them to change it. If they're even slightly resistant, find another artist. Don't feel bad about telling an artist you don't want to work with them. It may be their art, but it's your body. I got lucky because a friend from high school married a tattoo guy and she told he'd draw my original idea into something better, and he totally did. I liked his drawing so much, I let him do the work.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. My next task is to find a place. My buddy that I trust has a bunch of work done. I will start with his guy and go from there. Thanks again.
