While I agree with you on parts of it Tyler, I think the problem that most fighters have is that the UFC has SOOOOO much bargaining control in the original negotiations and then they are anything but fond of renegotiating anything in it. So some guys who might go on a pretty good tear or guys who might pull off a big upset and then go on a run might still be fighting at a 2k + 2k pay. Don't get me wrong, I think if people sign the contract they should finish it out as in the NFL and other professional sports, I hate people who hold out. I think the unevening bargaining power of the UFC, coupled with the type of contracts they have their fighters sign might eventually come under court scrutiny at least in the US. Not saying a fighter would win, but eventually a fighter (a la Couture) is going to try and get out of it and it just ends up looking messy. There was pretty interesting examination of the legal claims that someone might have after signing one of the contracts with UFC. I'll try to find it and post it up. It's a pretty good article .

saw on inside mma that fedor recieved 200,000 for the fight & sylvia got 800,000, not sure about the bonus's thou, but thats a huge pay-day timmy got for getting his ass kicked....maybe fedor needs a new manager

Fedor got a signing bonus that is rumored to have been into the 7 figure range, as well as getting the footage rights to any of his Affliction fights to use in Europe.

The California State Athletic Commission released the payouts for the fighters that competed in Affliction “Banned” which took place on July 19, 2008 at the Honda Center in California. As expected the payouts are quite large in comparison to fighters in most other organizations and does not include any potential “Special Bonus” that a fighter may receive from the promoter.

One surprise is Fedor Emelianenko’s purse of $300,000 dollars which is less that the $800,000 that Sylvia is received for the championship fight. It seems unlikely that he received less than Sylvia but that is the amount that is listed in the official payouts.



Fighters may have also paid for fines, or licensing, or other fee that would have been deducted from their purses. Terry Martin, Rogerio Nogueira, and Mike Whitehead paid fines of $500.00 each. It is unknown at time of writing what the fines were for.

Fighters may or may not have received special bonuses that would not appear here. It is unknown at this time if there were any such payouts.

The ticket sales for the event were surprisingly strong as Affliction sold a total of 11,242 tickets for a total of $2,085,510.00 in tickets sold. 3,590 tickets were given away that had a value of $600,500.00. Affliction also paid the commission a total of $115,247 for the live gate tax, radio/tv tax, neurological assessments and purse adjustments

There are so many different issues with the UFC contracts, but I think it's important to point out that the legal battle ZUFFA tried to have play out in court is not over Randy's "fighting" contract, but rather his contract to do promotional work for the company. ZUFFA/UFC does not really want to fight in court about the fighter's contracts because, if they should lose, then any fighter would be able to cancel their contract at any time and go fight somewhere else. It's a basic principal of contract law that you cannot force someone to work for you (slavery).
