true, but it actually happened in 2004, and given that the legend of Tony Martin was still ripe in the UK's minds (for this happened in the land of the old and decrepit royalists) that instead of the guy getting busted for wasting police time, he was lauded by the tabloids for exposing the inadequacies of the current policing policies.
It was about this time (of the Tony martin case) I worked the night shift at a hotel and some local bobbies would always pop around for a cuppa. One night I asked them how many other policemen were on duty patrolling the streets of my local district (about a good 200+ square miles) and the happily told us that they were it
- while they sipped their tea and chomped on their complimentary biscuits

If he really shot him, he would be a hero. It's the lying they don't like.

Good point. but really if your family are cops they probably wouldn't think this was a proper use of police time. Someone robbing a bunch of tools is low on a list of priorities when you have people shooting each other in the street.

My house got broken into and it took an hour and a half to get a cop here. My neighbor called 311 to tell them about an asshole drunk in the neighborhood parked on the wrong side of the street and there was a cop cutting a ticket in 5 minutes. Their priorities are already fucked. Another day, my neighbors threw a drop-cloth over a violent stray pit bull and sat straddling it for over an hour calling animal control and the popo. Someone finally went to the McDonalds up the street and pulled a cop out of the drive-thru line to help.
