I don't know if Job Corps is a national thing or just here, but here at least it's basically a boot camp like training program for people who are one step away from jail. All the ones I've met have basically been the type who really couldn't get or keep even a menial job when they got out out of high school and so after getting into minor trouble with the law, the judge gave them a choice of jail or Job Corps.
So, every couple of months, the Job Corps bus would pull up at the mall and drop off this motley crew of human refuse, and they would go hog wild in the mall spending their pay checks. Every time, we'd get a stream of them in buying pocket knives, and every time, their chaperones would search them as they got back on the bus and confiscate the knives. Now, I would understand better if it were different kids I saw each time, but in many instances, it was repeat customers, and in fact I first found out about the confiscations because one of the repeat customers, as he was buying the knife, said something like "Yeah, the last two times I bought a knife here they took it away from me when I got on the bus."
