read the stats. More like fact than opinion. And when Willie was around there were a half dozen players that rivaled him. When the Babe was around, no one came close. And the babes stats are better then Willies in almost everything. The Babe is even 3-0 as a pitcher in the WS. He dominated as a hitter while also dominating as a pitcher at the same time. The Babe was a gift from the baseball gods for all ball player to aspire too

Don't forget that he was an overweight alcoholic. Plus, he played in an era of segregation, when blacks and latinos weren't allowed to compete in the majors. Mays won two MVP's during his career, to Ruth's one, plus the ROY in '51, even though "there were a half dozen players that rivaled him". He also won 11 Gold Gloves (not that the GG was around when Ruth played). IMHO, Mays was the more complete player, and would have challenged Ruth's record if not for the two years he spent in the service.

No doubt, but I have to give the Babe the nod as a more complete player. And yes imagine if he took care of himself. He really was super human at the time.
Willie had a slight edge in fielding percentage over Ruth, .981 to Ruth's .968. Ruth also pitched for a number of years and still has better batting stats than Mays. But I can't take nothing away from the say hey kid. He definitely was great, but Ruth was god. Here is what some people who know a lot more about baseball than me have to say.
