It wasn't about taxes, Pred, it was about the federal government's ability to control the actions and laws of the states. State sovereignty was put to a test and crushed in that war. Sure slavery was ended too, at least for black people in the United States legally (there are still I'm sure many illegal slaves, mostly now from asian or hispanic nations I would guess). The point was that certain states claimed they could make their own laws and the federal government stated that this was only true if the law didn't disagree with ones the Federal government made. It's how we're going to end up with this great new healthcare bill and the doctors still won't be able to tell me why stomach hurts like a motherfucker and I have to shit 10 times a day.

More proof is in the fact that Lincoln originally only freed slaves in Confederate states, but none of the Northern slave states.

Woah, slow down. I should have been more specific and that's my fault but I wanted to refer to the High School and College age kids who ARE not going into lines of work where having an "alternative" appearance would be an asset.

Last summer two kids (A boy and a girl) around the age of 19 were going door to door offering appointments for bathroom refinishing. All you had to do was fill out a form giving your name phone# and best time to be reached.
Seems innocuous enough. These two had the neck tattoos that came all the way up to their chins and had other designs above their eyebrows. Their arms were not only sleeved, the tops of their hands were completely inked.

The boy had earlobe stretchers but they were only about 1/2" wide so far.

All I'm saying is that a few tattoos are one thing but some kids take this a little too far IMO.

I guess we'll see what happens in 5-10yrs.

i love my piercings, and theyere not gonna fully close, i took out one lip ring when i was 19 bc my bf at the time got the same pircing and the hole is still visible.

You're partially right. The South was the generator of raw materials for the gigantic textile industry like Cotton and Hemp. The Southern states were shipping it to the north where the huge factories were but the north but HUGE tariffs on Southern States. The North was getting Super rich but paying next to nothing for the materials and then shipping the finished goods to Europe.

The South said fuck this and tried to succeed.

Now I know that's not the ONLY reason but it was also starving the South economically.

That's the thing Amy. You've shown some of yours and have explained some meanings behind some of them.

To me, tattoos with real, personal meanings behind them are cool and I always ask people if I may check them out. I appreciate the artistry of good tattoos. Most people explain their meanings behind them because they're proud of them. The people who regret theirs give excuses that, "Well I went to the parlor with my buddies and the Carrot Top portrait on my forearm was too awesome to pass up."
