Sure if you want to use them as a guide great. But you are no longer required to follow them by God. They were handed down by God as rules to follow under the old covenant that was established with God. Jesus doing what he did ended that covenant and established a new one in which the only requirement for getting to heaven was believing that Jesus was/is the son of God and that he died for your sins then rose from the dead to ascend to heaven. It's all nicely summed up in the one New Testament verse that all the Christians love to throw around; John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
If you want to use the Ten Commandments as a guide for living your life, great, go for it. Means I don't have to worry about you sleeping with my future wife. But stop acting like (not saying YOU do) that's it's still required to get into heaven. Bullshit!
Of course, it all depends on how you want to interpret "should not perish but have everlasting life." Taken a face value it would seem to mean you won't die on Earth, but instead live forever! And therein lies the ENTIRE problem with the Bible and organized religion.... it's all matter of personal opinion and interpretation.
Ok, I'll step down off my soap box now.
