Oedipus would only apply here in the case of the grandmother supplanting the mother in the matronly role, since the Oedipus Complex deals directly with an obsession of the male offspring with is mother. However, if the obsession is directed at the grandmother, while the mother is the majority role player in the male's life, then it is a Freudian complex , which he simple called the Grandmother Complex.

This question reminds me of an old joke ... two stallions are standing at the top of the hill. One is young, one is old. The young stallion says, "Hey, I have a great idea!
