I may start carrying a copy of that article in my wallet for the next time I have to deal wiht a PETA nut.
We have a Peggy Adams Animal Shelter here in West Palm Beach. They were listed as a no kill shelter. Turns out they send a bus load of animals over to Animal Control almost daily to be euthanized because they didn't want to get their hands dirty, all in the name keeping the killing out of the press and so it wouldn't affect their fund raising efforts. The county and the state finally called them on it a few years ago and told them they can't call themselves a no kill shelter. It took 2 years and a court order to enforce it.
Now for the kicker. They were the only Animal Shelter in the area with a surplus of money and refused to help any of the small shelters out, when they were having trouble paying their bills. Most of the smaller adoption agencies did free praying and neutering, which Peggy Adams didn't, even though they had the county contract to help the poor with low cost or no cost spaying and neutering.
Talk about hypocrites. They even found a way to keep the no kill ruling out of the press so it wouldn't hurt their fund raising efforts. They had enough money is reserve to run the shelter for 5-7 years without needing to raise more funds. Yet they still never issued a press release. The only thing they ever did was remove the no kill from their pamphlets. Ppl still think they are a no kill shelter.
