I worked for att for almost 4 years. Put simply: BB is primarily a data device, the nokia is a phone. The nokia has 3g this BB Model doesn't. The nokia can be unlocked easily usually, the BB theoretically could. The nokia has a good community for offline pirated programs, the BB not so much. That said I love BB in general, nothing is easier. But the you'll get more use out of the nokia without a data plan. As far as reception, I've got to say they are both pretty much at the top of the game.
Interesting you exclude a Windows Mobile phone. But I guess since you're not getting a Data plan, that kinda makes sense.
Personally, the only reason I see to get a BB over a WM phone is if you work for a large corp which has a BB server. If not, a WM phone is a much better choice as it lets have free reign on your phone. You can install what you want, when you want and how you want. No worry about the BB service crashing either (happens a lot here in Ohio). That service is apart from any "data" service your cell provider has.

I personally use a WM phone, the fuze. I love to tinker with it and can get almost as much use out of it without a data plan as I can with it. The fuze even comes with the chip and software for the BB service, so it fits me very well.
But I wouldn't recommend this phone to people that want something easy to use. Flashing, installation, the reading that comes with the free range of this phone isn't for everyone.

Some do. I have Sprint and have for over 10 years so I'm not sure what ATT offers now. I know my neighbor and his wife have the Blackjack 2 and love it.
I had a windows mobile phone (the wing) thru t-mobile and it was great. However they are primarily for business use as there main draw is being able to create and edit MS Office docs right on the phone. I currently am using a G-1 which I am hot and cold on depending if I can find an app for wht I need.
