[edit] Judging Criteria
The ten-point must system is in effect for all fights. Three judges score each round and the winner of each receives ten points, the loser nine points or less. If the round is even, both fighters receive ten points. In New Jersey, the fewest points a fighter can receive is 7, and in other states by custom no fighter receives less than 7.
I had no idea that was part of the rules. I was always under the impression someone had to get 9 or less.
Silva/Leites was one of the worst fights I have watched, bordering on Quarry/Starnes in terms of sucking.
I don't think I will ever purchase a PPV again with Silva in the main event unless there are some other outstanding match ups on the card, or if the GSP/Silva fight pans out.

Ever watched the World Cup of Soccer?
The most interesting games are always 1/8-finals and 1/4-finals.
Semi and final are always booooooring. Both parts wants to win, and noone is willing to risk anything.
Sure, Silva understood the reaction from the crowd, but he won, didn't he?
He's still champ and no one can beg to differ. Leites wasn't even close. For awhile I though he was on to something, but I was wrong.
And what about those low front side kicks? (gedan mae yoko geri)

World cup soccer isnt on PPV so I'm not as upset when the semis and finals are not action packed. I agree won and kept his belt, but the point is he could have finished that fight on several occasions and thats why I am upset. He didn't even clinch with Leites once in 5 rounds...

I wonder where we are in the arc of MMA PPV buys.
Seems to me that as the sport grows the larger numbers in interest/eyes watching is offset by all the ready access combined with a larger talent pool. The bottom line is only the hard to get soccer matches go to Setanta here in the states, as an analogy; and others like NFL haven't really found a way for real subsciber numbers to surpass main stream network numbers.
I think eventually PPV numbers drop in favor of corporate sponsorship on netwrork (as we are beginning to see).
Zuffa'll surely ride it into the ground, and with the numbers Lesnar draws, maybe they haven't peaked.
I can't think of another card right now that I'd readily fork over the dough for in my own home - but I usually go to bars that are showing and/or just watch online minutes later.

I read something like this somewhere else, but I think it's a valid point. Chuck Liddell is one of the best counter punchers in MMA history. Anderson Silva is probably the best counter puncher in MMA today. Look what happened to Chuck when he tried to take the fight to Rashad and Shogun. He got knocked the fuck out because he doesn't keep his hands up. Silva holds his hands low and uses head movement to avoid shots mostly. That's a hell of a lot harder to do if you're moving forward and chances of getting caught are much higher. Why risk it when you don't have to? The bonus money? That wouldn't be worth the loss of my title and the tarnishing of my legacy as one of the best fighters in UFC history.
