I work in shipping/distribution, EVERY carrier has a flat rate, or a minimum, and truth be told, its cheaper to ship heavier packages...

because i thought the heavier it is, the more expensive it would be, due to fuel weight ratio etc?

The point they are bringing up is heavier people should pay more when they are actually using the same space (a seat)..so, if I take a standard size carton say 1ft sq, put 30lbs in it and ship it across the country using FedEx, UPS, whomever are going to charge me, say $15. I take the same size carton, put 5lbs in it, they have what they call dim weight and they are going to bill me at a higher weight and I'm going to end up paying at least $15, if not more to ship that carton. Trucking companies do the same thing, except they use a rating system called FAK. Now shipping to you in the UK (which I do often) is really just a flat rate for a container, plus all the custome charges and BS paperwork I have to do

Ah i see, thanks for that, so its more by size than weight, i suppose if you have a box on board, its the size of the box which is the problem, not the weight of it, makes sense.

that's what makes they're little rant so easy to dismiss, all the seats on the plane are the same size, so technically you are "renting" the same amount of space, its just that fat people are taking advantage of all of their space

In addition, think of it this way. Next time you see a morbidly obese person, give 'em a twinkie. Next time you see a smoker, give 'em another coffin nail. Better yet, next time you see a driver, tell 'em to take their seat belt off.

Why?

Those are the only people possibly save the social security system we have now. They will die before they can collect.

Smokes and the wealthy pay for the majority of taxes in this country, so be extra nice to them.
