We have the usual KFC, McDonalds (both yuck!!), the local takeouts making almost anything with chips on the side...
Here in our small town (pop. 45000), being at the coast we get fresh fish and seafood served with rice or chips or potato wedges.
Some popular brands:
Nandos - grilled chicken (also an international store presence)
Debonairs Pizza
Steers - burgers mostly, also ribs which are nice....
Spur Steak Ranches - the BEST for really good prime SA beef cuts
In the bigger towns/cities there are also the traditional pubs and grills, other chicken takeouts like Fontana Roasteries, Bimbos for burgers and late night after-party drunken eats...
Sadly, the late night takeouts only exist in the cities and then they are few andfar between. Of course, tastes in food differ from province (state) to province:
Kwazulu-Natal, big Indian population, therefore lots of hot n spicy foods
Freestate, beef mostly
Gauteng, an assortment
and so on....
Then of course there are the traditional foods of the african people like Mopani worms, corn on the cob grilled over an open fire, major part of the diet is chicken, tripe, etc. etc.
