Veteran Florida Teacher Skipped Class to Molest Her Students: Cops

Jeanette Valle-Tejeda fashioned herself as a “mother figure” to students but was sexually assaulting girls for a decade, police allege.

A 20-year veteran teacher at Hialeah High School, just outside of Miami, has been arrested for sexually abusing underage students for more than a decade.

Jeanette Valle-Tejeda, 41, was booked on Friday on a series of charges including sexual battery, child abuse, and lewd assault on a child under the age of 16.

As NBC-Miami reported, one victim told school officials and the police that Valle-Tejeda began molesting her in 2009, when she was a 14-year-old middle school student.

Arrest documents viewed by local news outlets say that Valle-Tejeda “groomed” the student and gave her “financial assistance.” She slept over the teacher’s house often, the documents say. The abuse lasted for years until the student turned 18, according to a CBS affiliate.

Valle-Tejeda allegedly skipped school with the girl and pulled her out of other classes without her mom’s permission. The two would then go to the beach or restaurants, and took showers together. The report says that Valle-Tejeda acted as a “mother figure.”

Two more victims have reportedly come forward to police, including one who said she was 11 when Valle-Tejeda began a “romantic relationship,” 7 News Miami reports. One former student said that she would engage in sexual acts on school grounds. Valle-Tejeda also encouraged her to participate in phone sex, but “constantly” reminded the victim to erase incriminating sexts.

Another victim alleged that Valle-Tejeda took her to clubs and bars when she was 17.

Valle-Tejeda was arrested and taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. She is being held without bond on a slew of charges and was fired from her reading teacher position. Hialeah High School has scrubbed Valle-Tejeda’s presence from its website.

The Miami-Dade school district released a statement: “Miami-Dade County Public Schools is deeply disturbed about the allegations made against this individual. As soon as the claims surfaced last month, the employee was removed from the school setting and Miami-Dade Schools Police launched an investigation. The District will be terminating her employment and she will be prevented from seeking future work with this school system.”

Marka Bodine teacher at Tomball Intermediate School accused of sexually abusing former male teen student under 14 years of age for three years.

A Texas middle school teacher has been accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a former male student for nearly three years, beginning when the boy was just 13 years old, police said.

Marka Lee Bodine, an English teacher at Tomball Intermediate School outside Houston, was arrested Saturday following an investigation into allegations made by a former student, Tomball police said in a statement.

Bodine, 31, was taken into custody on a felony charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child after a former student at the school contacted police on April 12. The offense is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

The investigation into Marka Bodine was launched last Monday, after a former student at Tomball ISD now aged 16, came forward with allegations of continuous and ongoing sexual misconduct against his former teacher.

Tomball police Chief Jeffrey Bert told KRIV that Bodine allegedly abused the male student for roughly two and a half years.

Victim was groomed

‘It was definitely a cry out for help,’ Bert told the station of the victim. ‘He had reached out to a school, and he reached out to the police department as well, so I think he just became overwhelmed with it and reached out to us.’

Bodine made her initial court appearance Monday. She told police that one of her former sixth-grade students had been harassing her and threatened to harm himself, court documents show.

But investigators allege Bodine had a three-year sexual relationship with the same boy who is now 16. Court documents indicate she admitted to sex acts with the victim starting in 2018 and continued having them even after he moved.

‘It does appear that this is one of those cases where grooming of the child was involved, in other words, getting the person to be feel trusted initially,’ said Bert. ‘Our big concern from the police department right now is to ensure that we have all the evidence of this case, but to ensure that there’s no other children involved.’

Of note, Bodine also confessed to sending the boy dozens of explicit photos and videos.

District officials told of placing Bodine on administrative leave upon being notified of the criminal investigation. She later resigned and is no longer employed by Tomball ISD.

Tomball police and child welfare officials are now conducting independent investigations in the accusations, district officials said.

Abuse of trust

Counselors ready to provide ‘social-emotional support’ to any student or staffer in need will be made available at the school for fifth- and sixth-graders, district officials said.

Bodine was booked into the Harris County Jail, where she was released after posting $100,000 bond and ordered to wear a GPS monitor, KPRC reported.

One parent of a child in the district told KPRC she was very disturbed by news of Bodine’s arrest.

‘I just got the email this morning and honestly that kind of stuff outrages me,’ the woman said.

A LinkedIn page for Bodine indicates she had worked as an English teacher for Tomball ISD since August 2015.

Not immediately clear is what led to the female educator abusing her position of trust, authority and power and subjugate her male victim.

Lisa DeFluri teacher at Oregon’s Thurston High School sent back to jail for trying to contact female teen student she is accused of sexually abusing.

A former married high school English teacher and basketball coach from Oregon accused last year of repeatedly having oral sex with her teenage student has been sent back to jail for allegedly trying to contact the girl.

Lisa DeFluri, 31, was arrested April 13 on a misdemeanor count of contempt of court according to Lane County jail records.

DeFluri had been head coach of the Thurston High School girls basketball team since 2018 and was also listed on the school’s website as a 10th grade teacher for English and English support classes.

DeFluri was first arrested in December, with the female educator charged with 11 counts of felony second-degree sexual abuse, accused of inappropriately touching and engaging in oral sex with a female player on the basketball team at Thurston High School on multiple occasions between July and December 2020, reported The Register-Guard.

The alleged victim is younger than 18 years old.


Educator fired following internal school investigation

She had yet to face trial for the original allegations when she was re-arrested in April for the most recent alleged crime.

Of note, DeFluri’s husband of five years was described as also working as an English teacher in the same district.

There is no indication he was involved in any of the alleged crimes.

A high school spokesperson said officials learned of the allegations against DeFluri on December 6, 2020, and immediately reported them to the police.

Investigators interviewed the alleged victim, her family, and witnesses, and seized phones and computers in search of corroborating evidence.

Springfield School District had initially placed DeFluri on paid administrative leave and later terminated her after conducting an internal investigation.

DeFluri and her husband, Steve Twomey, sparked a media frenzy five years prior when they got married at a tailgate party in Pasadena, California, during the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl.

According to a CNN report, DeFluri and Twomey have been together since seventh grade and share an obsession with the University of Oregon’s football team, the Oregon Ducks.

The couple were set to have a beach wedding when their team got a berth to the semifinal at the Rose Bowl, which inspired them to scrap their matrimonial plans and instead tie the knot outside the Rose Bowl stadium, with the groom’s stepdad officiating the ceremony.

Instead of a bridal gown and a tuxedo, the newlyweds wore matching Oregon jerseys and posed beneath a green-and-gold arch in honor of the Ducks’ team colors.

‘We’re not traditional, we love football and love the Ducks,’ DeFluri told CNN at the time.

DeFluri was due back in court today for a pre-trial conference, reported KEZI.

Samantha Krakower Leonia NJ High School teacher has inappropriate sexual relationship with student. Sexual assault charges comes a year after educator commenced teaching job.

‘A very troubling situation…’ A Bergen County, NJ high school teacher and coach was charged with sexually assaulting a student, authorities said Friday.

Samantha Krakower, a 24-year-old physical education and health teacher at Leonia High School, was accused of having ‘an inappropriate sexual relationship’ with a student, according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.

‘During the investigation, it was learned that Krakower, who is also a softball coach and basketball coach at Leonia High School, started the inappropriate relationship earlier this school year,’ Musella said in a statement cited by N.J.com.

Krakower faces charges of sexual assault, criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said. Krakower remained held at the Bergen County Jail ahead of a court hearing, sheriff’s office records show.

School officials on Thursday alerted Leonia police about the allegations, according to the prosecutor, who said borough police contacted the county special victims unit.

‘A very troubling situation’
District Schools Superintendent Edward Bertolini called the incident ‘a very troubling situation,’ and said he became aware of the allegations after officials received confidential tips. Counseling will be available at the school Monday, he added.

‘While these are pending charges and there has been no adjudication of guilt, the notification of these charges is of great concern to the Leonia Board of Education and the entire Leonia community,’ a statement from the school district said. ‘The board has suspended this teacher, pending an adjudication of the criminal charges and this teacher is restrained from being on any of the schools’ campuses.’

‘The board and the administration are working closely with law enforcement as their investigation proceeds and remain committed to ensuring the health and safety of our students,’ the district said.

The age of the male victim was not immediately known. Of note, Krakower’s arrest came two days after the woman turning 24 according to the Daily Voice.

Records show Krakower, of Palisades Park, became a teacher last year.

Not immediately understood is what led to the female educator abusing her position of trust, authority and power to subjugate her male victim.

It remained unclear if the educator had retained an attorney.

Corissa McCalister Steubenville, Ohio Catholic HS teacher charged with sexual battery after having sex with 15-year-old male student in the back of her car.

An Ohio high school teacher been arrested for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old male student in the back of her car at a deserted fairground.

Corissa McCalister, 21, who is a Spanish teacher, head cross country coach and assistant track coach at Catholic Central High School, in Steubenville, was taken into custody last week after the mother of the alleged victim informed staff about an incident that occurred in March.

Authorities said McCalister drove the teenager home from a track meet at Edison Local School on March 30.

Police said McCalister parked at the Harrison County Fairground in Cadiz, Ohio, where they had sex in the back of her car.

Following her arrest, McCalister, who is facing two counts of sexual battery, posted $100,000 bail WTRF reported.

Placed on admin leave

In a press release, the Diocese of Steubenville said McCalister has been placed on leave.

‘Thomas Costello, principal of Catholic Central High School, Steubenville, after consulting with Diocesan Superintendent Deacon Paul D. Ward, has placed Corissa McCalister, 21, teacher, head cross country coach and assistant track coach, on administrative leave,’ the statement reads.

The diocese said that on April 21, school officials were informed about allegations of sexual abuse involving McCalister.

The mother of the alleged victim, told school officials about the claims and Costello ‘immediately informed the diocese of the allegations’ and notified local authorities.

On April 23, the diocese was informed by Harrison County authorities that charges have been filed. According to the diocese, none of the allegations occurred on school grounds.

In addition, the faculty of the high school and junior high schools were notified by Costello of the charges during a meeting after school on April 23.

‘The parents of all high school and junior high students were also notified about the incident through emails,’ the statement reads.

Received the 2020 Spanish Award

Steubenville Bishop Jeffrey M. Monforton, said: ‘I am deeply saddened by news of the allegations and I offer my prayers for healing for the victim and the victim’s family as well as the Catholic Central school community.’

According to her LinkedIn profile, McCalister is a 2020 graduate of St. Francis University Loretto, Pennsylvania, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish education and minors in English literature and Spanish health services. As a senior at the university, McCalister received the 2020 Spanish Award, given to the best overall Spanish major.

A Diocesan Response Team will be reaching out to the alleged victim’s family and the school community to provide support.

Not immediately clear is what led to the female educator abusing her position of authority, trust and power to subjugate her male victim.

Colonial Heights Va. kindergarten teacher busted for cocaine during recess

A Colonial Heights Virginia kindergarten teacher has been arrested while her students were at recess after a substance suspected to be cocaine was found in her desk, authorities said.

Cybil Billie, 46, of Chesterfield County, was taken into custody last week at Lakeview Elementary School after an administrator contacted a school resource officer about possible drugs, WWBT reported.

The officer spoke with Billie and found what appeared to be cocaine in her classroom desk, WRIC reported.

Division Superintendent William D. Sroufe said the students were at recess when she was taken into the custody and the arrest was handled ‘tactfully.’

‘The safety of our students is a top priority and we will continue to follow School Board policies and procedures throughout this process. Families with any concerns or who may need additional support during this time may contact Lakeview Elementary School,’ he said in a statement.

‘She was a great teacher. My daughter enjoyed having her so much.’

‘We are continuing to cooperate with the Colonial Heights Police Department during their investigation.’

Billie was booked on felony possession of cocaine and released the following day after posting $1,000 bail. Billie is next scheduled to appear in court on June2 .

One of her students’ parents, Kelli Gagnon, said that she had a conversation with her daughter about how ‘sometimes adults make mistakes.’

‘Sometimes adult mistakes are a little bigger. We can’t just go stand in time out… [Bilie] will get the help that she needs,’ Gagnon told WRIC. ‘She was a great teacher. My daughter enjoyed having her so much.’

Not immediately clear is whether the educator was known or understood to have abused narcotics during her employment at school and what treatment she may have sought to avail herself of addiction issues.

Former Mississippi high school teacher accused of enticing male student will not serve jail time

A former Lafayette High School teacher will not serve jail time after being charged with a felony sex crime three years ago.

According to court documents filed earlier this month, Molly Wray had her court case retired after Lafayette County Circuit Court judge Kent Smith granted a motion made by the state. The condition of the order is subject to Wray serving five years of good behavior effective on the date of the order being signed, according to the document.

Wray allegedly enticed a then 17-year old male, an LHS student, to meet for sexual purposes in November of 2017. She was arrested in June of 2018 after the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department received a report from the Lafayette County School District that Wray had allegedly engaged in improper conduct with a male student. A Lafayette County Grand Jury indicted Wray on the charge of Enticing a Minor.

Since Wray’s arrest three years ago, her attorney, Tony Farese, has filed nine continuances on behalf of his client. The most recent request for a continuance was filed on July 6, according to court records. The order to retire Wray’s case was signed by Smith on July 13.

If the case had gone to trial and if convicted, Wray would have been sentenced between 2-10 years in prison or fined up to $10,000, according to Mississippi law.

A former southwest Missouri teacher accused of having sexual relations with a student has had her case dropped by prosecutors after she and the student got married. The ‘couple’ now share a toddler boy.

Baylee A. Turner, 26, was charged in February 2019 with having sexual contact with a male student while teaching her first year of English at Sarcoxie High School.

Nate Dally, an assistant Jasper County prosecutor, said the charge was dismissed because the marriage means the former student can no longer be compelled to testify against Turner, which makes prosecuting the case difficult, The Joplin Globe reported.

Turner previously taught English at a middle school in the district for two years before she took a job at the high school in the 2019 school year where she taught 11th and 12th grade.

At the time of her initial Feb, 2019 arrest, Turner, then 23, confessed to having sex with the student, 18 at the time at a residence according to prosecutors. Of note, previous reports described the teacher as being a devout Christian.

Had faced up to 4 years prison if convicted
Turner has surrendered her state teaching license, which was the prosecutor’s main concern, Dally said. The educator resigned her post shortly after her arrest.

The probable cause affidavit in the case does not say how old the student was at the time Turner was charged. Not immediately clear is when exactly the ‘couple’ wed.

The initial charge against Turner had been classified as a Class E felony in Missouri and could have potentially led to the educator serving up to four years jail time if convicted.

A California biology teacher has been accused of molesting seven students and sharing graphic photos online according to authorities.

Anessa Paige Gower, 35, is facing 29 separate criminal counts over the alleged abuse that occurred when she was teaching at Making Waves Academy in Richmond, the Costa District Attorney’s Office said in a release.

The victims and witnesses told investigators that the abuse, which dates back to last year, included sex acts with the minors, inappropriate touching and sharing sexually graphic photos, prosecutors said.

Authorities declined to reveal the age or gender of any of the victims, but the charter school has a 1000 students in grades 5 through to 12.

Gower was taken into custody last Wednesday at Sacramento International Airport when she returned from a vacation in Hawaii.


Abuse of authority, power and trust
Gower is currently in custody in Richmond and is being held on $2 million bond, and has yet to enter pleas to the charges against her, which include statutory rape, lewd acts with a child under the age of 14, sending harmful matter to seduce a child, and more than two dozen counts of child molestation.

Making Waves Academy Chief Executive Officer Alton B. Nelson Jr. said Gower was fired after the allegations came to light.

‘During the course of an investigation into allegations that one of our teachers violated school policy, we learned of additional highly concerning allegations involving that teacher’s conduct,’ Nelson said in a statement obtained by KRON4.

‘We immediately shared that information with authorities who are reviewing the matter. That teacher is no longer employed by Making Waves Academy and we have reached out to parents, students and faculty to provide support where it might be needed.’

Not immediately clear is what led to the female educator abusing her position of trust, authority and power to sexually prey on her students.
