On the way to a new site for a short term contract, I got stuck behind about 10 semi-trucks. Accident was up ahead about a 1/3 of a mile. About 100 vehicles behind me. So, I creep to that point over a 1/2 mile distance and an hours time. One East bound lane, one West bound. Construction barrels too. Called in to tell them I'm gonna be late "hopefully no more than a 1/2 hour".
Well, at 8:00 a fire marshal comes up the road behind me, gets three cars back and blocks the road. Has everyone BEHIND him turn around and go back the way we came. Only does let us in front of him turn around!!! WTF!!!
I was freaking stuck there for two and a half hours because that pompous ass wouldn't let cars in front of him turn around, which we easily could have done. And safely too since there was no traffic heading the other direction.
Sadly, the accident up ahead was a fatal one. Some stupid SUV driver decide pass a semi (45mph construction zone), realized that he couldn't make it out of the oncoming lane, sideswiped a pickup heading the same direction as he was causing it to crash off the berm, then ran head on into a semi-truck coming around the curve. SUV driver died on impact.
No I don't feel sorry for him! Guy was completely stupid and caused me to lose 3 hours of pay! I do feel sorry for the truck and semi drivers.
