I'm too poor to pay attention. Really... I got a raise this year at work (unexpected considering the change in manager and the company not doing so hot financially). Turns out the raise bumped me to the next highest withholding bracket so I'll be making less every other week bring-home than I was before the raise. Gotta love that fucking shit.

My friend who was a general contractor in New Mexico is convinced the Native Americans saw the white man approach with their horses and guns and knew they could never beat them in a war. So to get their long term revenge they tore down the pitched roofs on all their hogans and made them flat.

I think that was partly because he is so short. I heard him say recently that he can't do that anymore because his belly is too big.

Open a pretax account like a 401k or IRA. You can put a small amount away and get under that bracket.

Sucks is I should have signed up for the damned medical FSA and that would have done it. But they do open enrollment for that kind of shit in December and you can't change it until next December or a "qualifying life event." And I didn't know about the raise until February. Fuck that shit, means I'm getting divorced or becoming a widower, then I can change it!
