So the wife is receiving long-term disability pay. Comes from another state as her old employer is not based here. Last year we got a letter from Tax Act saying we owed state tax. We didn't know why, but thought it was because state tax was not withheld from her LT disability and that the W2 for it was marked as "Sick pay". We sent a letter and a copy of her LT disability and explained, blah, blah. Never heard anything back.
So this year again we got a letter and we did the same thing. We're thinking the reason we didn't hear anything back is that the state accepted that she's on LT disability which is not state taxable.
Well, last week the wife and I were talking to a relative who works for the State Auditor tax department and she said she'd double check because we should have got a letter of confirmation and "release" from state tax on my wife's LTD.
I got an email from her tonight. Guess why we haven't heard anything back about state taxes.

According to Ohio, both my wife and I are deceased!
WTF! How did I die and not know it? And why when my wife died did I not get her life insurance cause I know that redhead would have died before me
On a serious note, it's a bit scary to think that the state can flag BOTH of us as deceased and still collect tax on my SS#. Not to mention my brother pointed out that this may be why I've been passed over for some jobs where a background check has been done.
Just another headache typical of my life.
