Thank you for this thread. I can see how this could be very helpful.

My current project around my house is replacing a collapsing deck on the back of my house. It was in bad condition when I bought house and it has degraded quickly. I'm the son of a carpenter but never even learned how to hammer a nail. So this project is going to be a learning lesson.

It is good to know that I can post questions here.

Thanks for the replies. I plan to hit you guys up during different projects.

I'm an electrical engineer but have worked as a electrician during slow times. Most of my work was done commercial wiring but I have done plenty of residential work too. So I can advice on electrical issues.

Default retaining wall

what should I use as my active lateral earth pressure for a cast-in-place concrete retaining wall in my backyard? Assume a sandy, clayey soil....level backfill. I'd prefer using the Rankine theory, thanks. I'd also prefer a value in units of bacon?

Good thread though......but we're all gonna sue you if things fail. Bob Megadouche Vila.

I'm actually about to purchase a SERIOUS fixer-upper, I mean SERIOUS...I'm gonna have to gut the whole fucking thing and put a new standing seam metal roof on.

Just had a faucet in the kitchen let go over the Veterans day, found there was no shut off valves under the sink...
The ones that had been there were removed and replaced with valves with garden hose connectors for back when the washing machine was upstairs...
Had to kill water to the whole house.
The plumber wanted 500 dollars just to add the shutoff valves!!!
Told him to screw off...
Man we know the economy is bad, but don't try to make it all up on one service call!
