To properly kick a cat:

Step1: Take three steps back. If you kick with your left foot, take two and a half steps to the right. If you kick with your right foot, take two and a half steps to the left.

Step2: Run toward the cat, starting with the foot you won't be kicking with.

Step3: Plant your nonkicking leg firmly about 1 foot to the side of the cat, your foot pointing in the direction in which you want the cat to go (over the fence, for example, or straight into the garbage cans).

Step4: Power through the cat with your kicking foot, making contact about one-third of the way above the cat's ass. For maximum distance, kick the cat with its tail up.

Step5: Follow through as much as your flexibility will allow.

When done properly cat kicking is an excellent form of exercise and entertainment.

Now to punt a cat is a little different:

Step1. Hold the cat by the scruff of the neck.

Step2. Drop the cat toward your kicking leg about arms length in front of you, simultaneously swinging your leg up toward the cat.

Step3. Let the cat hit the top of your foot and follow through. Make sure to keep your leg moving through the cat with as much force as you can manage.

Step4. When you follow through make sure you're leg builds up speed and momentum which makes you're non kicking foot to skip up in the air.

Step5. This should successfully punt the cat high and far.

Don't get disappointed if it doesn't work on the first try. If you miss you can always try kicking the cat soccer style!
