I had an email from Shade's wife this morning. My friend has departed this AOE.

Shade and Milo were the driving forces in our operation. Shade help some of us reboot into a smaller org this year for which we could never thank or repay him. He's survived by his wife of 40 years, Johanna, four children, and a dozen grandkids.

I looked for and found his goodbye post on reddit this morning.

Shade thought there was more time, but new test results gave him weeks at best. He never sat around waiting for stuff to happen. It's got to be better than rotting away while the pain meds stop working.
