Anyone here an organ donor? Other than the obvious "I'll lend my organ out to any chick who is willing". Personally...when I'm gone....bury me with all my shit, unless my liver is still functioning...then they can donate it to science...

I'm a donor, i won't need them when I'm dead, so why not help save someone's life with one....

I was born with it, I will die with it. Way too selfish to donate anything, I don't even give to Goodwill.

I am a donor also. I mean, if I needed an organ, I hope there would be one available for me, so it's a bit hypocritical not to be a donor.

I am a donor, as well as a regular blood donor.

I'm an organ and blood donor. My feeling is you shouldn't be able to receive an organ if your not willing to give.

I hope they take whatever they can from me. I have had two friends pass away waiting for an organ or transplant. It is not pretty watching them suffer.

Yup i'm a donor.
My ex girlfriend's 8 year old nephew received an organ in the 11th hour that saved his life.
That's when i decided

As far as I'm concerned they can cut off anything they need and throw the rest in the dumpster.

Everytime this question comes up there will be someone who throws in the old "doctors won't resuscitate" garbage. Sorry, I'm not having a go here, but the longer and wider this myth spreads the more people die. Its just plain old not true. Like others here, I know someone who badly needs a transplant, so this is just something that bugs me when I hear it.
read this;
http://www.snopes.com/medical/emergent/donor.asp
btw. your heart can't be given to a kid, it has to be the appropritate size, ie. a 9 year old needs another 9 year olds heart. That's why its so hard to find a donor. But i'm sure someone would be very grateful to you

This could become a VERY volatile thread. Please remember that these are PERSONAL choices. Respect what others say and do not flame, harass, or otherwise call anyone out on THEIR choice.
As for me... I was born with it, I will die with it, be buried with it, and if I need one I hope someone gives it to me. Hypocritical? Inconsistent? Maybe.
Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago. -Bernard Benson
I have no consistency, except in politics; and that probably arises from my indifference to the subject altogether. - Lord Byron
Consistency is contrary to nature, contrary to life. The only completely consistent people are dead. - Aldous Huxley
Consistency is the last refuge of the unimaginative. - Oscar Wilde

What does that mean actually. If it's not in a living will then how will the doctors be given direction? Is it on your driver's license?
I am a donor although I have no idea what use I'd be except science.
As for the folks who don't wanna do it...search on ESPN about that kid from the University of North Carolina. He was their mascot and died during the final four. Got hit n run outside the hotel in New Jersey I think. Anyway that one kid saved a half dozen lives and his parents MET all those people. If you ain't bawlin after you watch that video you don't have a soul.
Found it for ya, the story of Jason Ray (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/ncaatourney08/news/story?id=3310143).

hacking my body up and "parting me out" after I'm dead....no thanks...

After I'm dead I can give a rats ass. I think it was david cross that made the joke that he hoped after he died people got the most enjoyment out of his corpse. So he came up with giving his corpse to necrophiliacs.
A bit extreme I know. But funny as hell in context.

Not a B-Movie but an interesting take on that discussion (oh and Naomi Watts gets boned which is ALWAYS good for a movie).

Ding ding, he nailed it. I personally don't want someone else's organs in my body I find it a little creepy. Give it to the next person, I will die with what I was born with.

Having your shit parted out like an old car is a bit unsettling, but I am definately thankful to those who choose to do it since I know I'll need to get in on it in the near future.

I wish I could choose who got my organs. I know there are restrictions to who can receive a donation, but I don't want some dude who destroyed his liver with booze to get a second shot at life because of me. Fuck him, let him die.

I'm a donor... not like I'll be needing them anymore or that I care what I will have left when I'm 6 feet under and hey If I can save someones life thats pretty cool too.

I work in tissue donation, and yes I am a donor. There is a huge need, and I'm not going to have any use for it when I'm done.
Oddly enough, I don't know if I would want my mom to donate. It's hard to think about her being cut up when she dies. It's her choice, though.
And, doctor's will not let you die to take your organs...think about it. Doesn't make any sense. Organ donation is not even approached until you are brain dead for a certain amount of time. If I'm brain dead for a couple of hours, I would rather not live anyways...

I'm definitely a donor, have been since I was given the choice. If I happen to die with perfectly good organs, why do I care if they're taken out of me? Won't do me any good once I'm dead. I'd love to be able to give people the gift of life with my death.
Heck, I don't even want to take up space when I die- I've taken up enough space and resources while I've been alive, no need to give me a plot of land when I'm dead. Cremate me, compost me, bury me out in the woods somewhere where I can decompose and put my energy back into the earth.
That's just me, of course. Everyone's choices are their own, and that's fine.

Those green burials are starting to seem like a great idea.
For those of you that don't know what they do is bury you without a casket and just in a biodegradable shroud. After 50 years there is nothing left of you and the land can be reclaimed. Plus they put trees and shit on top of you.

Good point. I want to be cremated anyway. Maybe my family can get a discount since there's less of me to burn.

I plan on donating. I actually want to make a small ceremony out of me signing my Driver's License. Actually, I just want my wife and my parents to be in the same room when I do it so they know about it.
For the rest of me I have made my wife swear that I will be cremated and with the ashes she needs to commission and artist to make a concrete bust of my head with my ashes in the concrete. It is my hope that after time I will be bought and sold for nothing more than $1 at garage sales across the country and the buyer will have no idea that there are human remains in their purchase.

I'm absolutely an organ donor. When I'm finished with them, what the fuck do I care what happens to them? If someone can benefit, then score!

I am not having any little brats so there will be nothing passed down to family. That will make it a little easier for the concrete bust to enter into the random crap that people buy on a whim and then sell a year later at their own garage sale.

I'm a donor and made sure it was noted on my driver's license as well as made sure my family knows my wishes. Working in surgery, I've seen a donor harvest (where they bring the donor into the OR, and the donor team takes the organs). Several weeks later, a letter from MORA (Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency) is sent to the OR thanking all those involved in the harvest and then stating a brief summary of what went where, and who got what, and a little info about all who were blessed by that person's donations. It is very touching and heart warming.

I am officially an organ donor. But, it is not likely that mine will be able to be used given my meds and diseases. I can't currently donate blood because I am on a biological medication. If I go off of it, it's possible I might be allowed at some point in the future, way down the road after it's out of my system. I dunno some organs might be ok for them to use from me but likely not the important one. They might be able to use whatever they do from the eyes, maybe some skin tissues. My heart, not likely because of the blood pressure issues I have from inflammation. My kidneys and liver, not likely because of my meds. Lungs, not so sure.
My wishes are if they can use the organs, go for it. If not, donate me to science so they can hack me up and see what untreated disease does to a body. If some scientist doesn't want me, then cremate my ass and do whatever with the ashes. I don't need it when I am gone.
Another thing that is a passionate thing for me is drug trials. I'd be very willing to volunteer to trial drugs for certain diseases. But because of the mix of things I have, I am not acceptable as a trial candidate. Sucks too because trials help so many patients. I've done trials for meds as a kid and now those meds are OTC. Sad huh?

Not an Organ Donor, but here is something weird (I thought) I have given blood all my life, but if you spend more than 60 Months overseas (in the army not my choice) you can no longer give blood EVER, cuz you might have the Human version of "Mad Cow Disease" and the only way to check for it, is to take a sample of brain matter........? WTF I got good fluids?
