View Full Version : What do you consider a lot of alcohol?

I know various people that range from 3-20 beers to get drunk, and I'm curious to see where I land amongst normal people.

So, what is your threshold? How many drinks before you're drunk?

It takes about 15 beers before I can say I'm completely wasted. This wednesday coming up, I am buying a 24 of Keiths (Good Canadian Beer) and seeing how far I can get with it.

I've only done that once. Me and my buddy both got a 24 pack when we were in high school. We drank til we could drink no more. I finished and I think he had 1 or 2 left. We were drinking with a mission though, and the next day hangover was a bitch.

Why did you quit? Hook up with too many guys like me when you were drunk?

LOL it was interesting to say the least. But back in my drinking days I used to drink like a freaking fish. :)

I still do.

The whole reason I started this thread was because I was hoping for a bunch of responses by people saying they regularly drink 15 beers on a weeknight so I can justify continuing to drink.

Well, I've been dating for a decade and haven't managed so I tend to doubt it. Plus, I'd probably start to drink twice as much to prove my point if a chick suggested I quit.

I stopped drink 15 years ago tomorrow. Could drink JD like there was no tomorrow. I miss it sometimes, but I don't miss what it did to my personality. It made me more of an asshole than I am.

In reality, I would love to have an excuse to quit drinking. I haven't found one yet though.

I don't drink as much as I did when I was in undergrad, but at my peak of drinking I could put away 3/4 of a fifth before I left for the bars or pretty easily knock down a 12 pack in about 90 minutes in order to get good and sauced before leaving. I think the most I ever did was on the NFL draft one year where I took down a 24 pack during the draft and then went out for my birthday shortly thereafter. Probably ended up in that 6 drink category at the bar and proceeded to try to start a fight with everyone on the way home. I got over drinking like that shortly thereafter and try to stay away from doing too much now other than some social beers, definitely shy away from liquor. That's ALWAYS a hangover.

Now, drink caused me to give up smoking cigs. I noticed that when I drank, I burned more cigs than I smoked. Switched to cigars, and they go out if you leave them too long. Saves on money and since they aren't addictive as cigs I only smoke about 2 Black and Milds a week whick my doctors could care less about. Even my pulminary doctor. Wish it was pot, but then I wouldn't pass any drug tests the government may give me for some of the benefits I have to qualify for.

Well, for me it takes a good amount to get me going. Tonight I've had half of a 750ml 10 year old Irish whiskey and I'm just buzzed. I could drink almost the whole thing but I know I'd pay for it hard core. As for beer I went rafting over the summer and had 21 beers over 5 hours and was pretty drunk, not bad enough to pass out, but enough to if I fell in the water I would have had a bit of a issue swimming long distances. but then again me and my roommate shared a bottle of absinthe I order from the chek republic and we were not even close as bad , as when we drink Yeager.

yea, it is now but a few years ago it wasn't and the shit you buy here doesn't have the right amount of wormwood in it. it's just alcohol.

lightweight here, somewhere between 6-8 beers to get me nice and drunk. probly 10-12 to puke, depending on the amount of time gone by.

but im happy just to keep that buzz, no need to get wasted.

My main issue is that I very very rarely puke, meaning I seem to be able to just constantly drink throughout the night. I tend to drink a lot but I dont down them all. I was fairly drunk last night and I only had 5 vodkas and 6 beers. I had stopped drinking for a week as I was getting into all sorts of problems and needed to clear my head a little. A usual night out would involve along the lines of triple that amount, especially if I was on a mission to get fucked up.

I would say last night was the perfect amount because I feel reasonably ok now, nothing some microwaved food and a bath wont fix!

Oh yeah, I would consider a lot to be a mix of around 6 - 8 pints, a few shots of jaeger/sambuca or whatever, some mixed spirits, fuck I dont know. Does it mean you have a problem when you dont really consider anything to be a "lot"? Just a lot more than you had the previous night?

There are a few variables, like whether I eat, or if I'm with a crowd of ppl, but generally 12-15 beers. 8 is usually enough to give me a pleasant buzz.
I can drink Miller Lite all night and never feel drunk. That's why I never drink it.
I rarely drink liquor, it fucks my shit right up.

I remember there being a lot of light beers when I was in America. Most beers I drink are about 6% (12 proof) or ales I drink are sometimes around 8.5% (17).

I noticed that people never seemed to have the slightest idea of how many units they had for driving and didnt see anything on the labels. I mean the road system in the cities is just straight lines so a monkey could drive drunk but I found it crazy how nobody seemed concerned about it.

when i first got drunk i think i had two shots of JD and i was off the walls

since then ive built it up for quite a while

im a vodka girl because tequila gives me a hangover like no tomorrow and i do weird shit like remove all the screens in my house when i drink it

i can usually take around 8-10 shots, that gets me nice and drunk, 12 if i want to be borderline belligerent. i think on my birthday i neared 16 but im not really sure if i reached it. our vodka is cheap vodka (prob. grey wolf) so keep that in mind

beer-wise its usually in the range of 8-12 beers, its hard to tell because flipcup is my favorite drinking game and the beers go around so its difficult to keep track.

In my prime I would regularly drop 28 a night and I showed the Virginia Tech offensive line how to handle moonshine after having a case of beer already. I pretty much quit drinking when I got married because my ex couldn't handle her shit and made a fool out of herself, so I quit drinking to try to get her to quit. Post-divorce I've regained some of my form, it's not uncommon for me to have a couple pitchers before work, then sneak out to the bar and make a few mixed drinks during work and then meet friends after work for a few drinks. There's a little pizza chain out here that gives you $50 worth of food and booze if you complete a checklist of 30-some beers, but they only let you do 4 a night. I knocked out half of it in one night by going to 4 different locations with different people.

I just turned 21 in september, so I'm totally in my prime! haha. Crown Royal is my poison...I can drink a 750ml and still function and love it. Beer though, just depends, Most EVER though, was a 30 pack at a music festival...started drinking at 3pm quit at 3am haha. Sometimes I party hard...others just social, only having a few drinks...Just depends on the mood and feel of the others I'm with.

It depends on what I am drinking, and how much I have eaten that day.

Also,it depends if I am looking to have just a really good buzz,
or I am looking to get totally shitfaced.

I have a pretty big alcohol tolerance, especially with beer.

On average,I have to drink about 12 beers to be considered "drunk",
maybe even more.

And this is with Canadian beer, because the alcohol content is a bit
higher than that of an American beer.

Give Canadian Mist a shot. It's cheap as fuck and can pass for crown if your taste buds aren't too good.

Last night was about a 12 pack and half a bottle of rumpleminz. Really though I mainly drink Burnetts vodka. 7.99 a bottle around here but the funny thing is the shit is actually very good for vodka. Usually pound a fifth to myself on the weekend of that.

I chugged a bottle of Great White and it was the most insane quick drunk rush of my life. I was about 15 years old and I remember everyone speaking in slow-motion before passing out in the cold outside. Oh the days of high school...

I would have to say we are pretty equal here heat. I am more of a social drinker anyway, and I happen to think alcohol overall is wayy over rated. Marijuana rules heh/

Last friday night had 10 pints of local microbrew, about 5%, I had a good buzz another 4-5 would have been drunk, but I was driving so had to keep it under control.

You're welcome. Glad you liked it. They claim to do better than crown in taste tests and I'm not a connoisseur by any means so it works for me. Even if the taste was way off, I wouldn't be able to tell after 1 or 2 anyway. Reminds me of high school when we'd start off with a 6 pack of decent beer then switch to the shit.

I thought that most american beers were in the 3.2-3.8 range,(miller, bud, & coors) looks like I was mistaken.

I sent an email to the brewery to find out what the alcohol content is, I know that they have a couple that are in the 15-18% range. Get back to you on this one. If interested here is their website.
